Google2GPX v1.1.0

Google2GPX is an idea I had when I realized that Google Maps was a far better product than Garmin's MapSource and Microsoft's Streets and Trips.

The program itself is quite simple to use.
  1. Create your route using Google maps.  You will end up with something along these lines:

  2. Right click the 'Link to this page' link and copy the link's location

  3. Paste the link into Google2GPX's area, and name the route something meaningful.

  4. Submit the form and save the resultant GPX file.  Import the GPX file in Garmin MapSource.  The route will look something like this:

  5. This route obviously doesn't follow the road very well.  This is because Garmin stores some extra data regarding the route information.  You can have Garmin recreate that information by right clicking the route and selecting "Recalculate route."  Now your route will look like this:

  6. The route is now ready to be used.  Upload it to your GPS via your normal method.
As of version 1.1.0, you can now customize your routes after submitting the link.  This way you can leave meaningful comments such as "stop here for lunch," or "beautiful scenery."  Furthermore, you can specify which symbol to display on your GPS.  The available options are the comprehensive list from Garmin's MapSource program.

In the future, the following features will be added:
  • Multiple routes per GPX file
